What to wear when skiing for the first time
I run cold and so I hate being cold. I was so worried about I am a girl who loves to accessorize. I like any sport where I get really sport-specific clothing and accouterments. Enter the super fashionable world of skiing.
First things first, if you live in a cold climate like new york you don’t actually have to buy much in the way of clothing for skiing your first time. Raid your closet! As long as you have a wool turtleneck, a sweater or a fleece jacket, and some kind of insulating pants to wear under a winter jacket and waterproof snow pants, you should be warm enough on the slopes.
A lot about skiing clothes is counter-intuitive! In order to be prepared on the mountain, and increase your chances of enjoying yourself you need to know exactly what to wear when skiing for the first time. The key is to wear thin fitted layers that will keep you insulated from the elements and wick moisture away from your body inside as you sweat profusely trying desperately not to fly off the face of a mountain.

What to wear on your body when skiing
Base Layers |This widely used term is pretty self-explanatory and refers to the first items you put on for the day. This item should be form-fitting and allow for a range of motion. You want either a set of longjohns in a moisture-wicking or one pice preferably with a but flap. Your base layer is very important for ensuring you have a comfortable first time skiing and should be made of either wool or a synthetic fiber.
Mid Layers | If your first time skiing happens to be a particularly cold day you want to beef up your insulation level by wearing an additional layer underneath your coat. This layer should take the form of a fitted wool sweater or a fleece jacket.
Outer Layers |These items will come in direct contact with the elements. Nothing will turn your first time skiing into your last faster than a frozen soggy bottom. Be sure to check your outerwear first to ensure it is waterproof, this includes your pants. wear

What to wear on your feet when skiing for the first time
Ski Socks | Socks that blend acrylic and nylon or wool, preferably not cotton. Contrary to common sense you want the socks you wear skiing to be in a single layer and very thin. socks should fit smoothly in your booth without any bunching to prevent a painful skiing experience the first time around.
Make sure nothing is inside your ski boot but your ski sock. The added layers create preasure points
Ski Boots | Apart from actual skis, Ski boots are the most important part of what you will wear skiing in my opinion, they can make or break your first time. If it’s your first time skiing its best to rent ski boots on the mountain, renting ski boots your first time ensures you have a proper fit. If you fall in love with the sport and plan on hitting the mountain more than three times you can always buy ski boots later.
Ski boots should feel like you’re foot is getting hugged tightly, its best to have a snug fit than a loose one. What you’re looking for is your toes lying flat in the boot within wiggle room of the very front of the boot.
The first time you try on your ski boots, be sure to try on both feet to ensure there are no “hot spots” inside of the boot. The quickest way to turn your first time skiing into your last is to wear a ski boot with a “Hot Spot” or a preasure point, that will become agonizing over time.
